Police Lights car crashNatividad Montelongo, a 65-year-old Lynwood man, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning in Paramount, authorities said.

The collision, involving a pickup truck and a sedan, occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at the intersection of East Alondra Boulevard and South Garfield Avenue. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Montelongo died at the scene.

Authorities have not yet confirmed which vehicle Montelongo was in at the time of the crash. One of the drivers reportedly fled the scene on foot, prompting a hit-and-run investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Remaining at the scene of a crash is not only a legal obligation — it can mean the difference between life and death. Over the past decade, hit-and-run incidents were cited in 3,348 of California’s 33,252 fatal crashes, highlighting the tragic consequences of fleeing a scene.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

Bond explained that multiple factors — such as road conditions, signage visibility, and lighting — must be thoroughly examined during an independent investigation. “These procedures are essential to helping families who have lost a loved one pursue justice,” she added.

Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate, also emphasized the broader responsibility of all drivers: “The driver always has to take great care behind the wheel.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Natividad Montelongo may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims may provide compensation for the loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and funeral expenses following a tragic accident like this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
