injury car crashMatthew Meester was among a group of horseback riders struck by an SUV in Orland on Tuesday evening, leaving him with serious injuries.

The collision occurred at around 7:45 p.m. on County Road 16, just west of County Road HH. Authorities reported that a 34-year-old Orland man driving westbound struck four riders, throwing them all from their horses.

One rider, identified as 27-year-old Matthew Meester, sustained major head and neck injuries, while a 32-year-old man suffered moderate injuries. CHP has not released details about the conditions of the other two riders.

The SUV driver also sustained unspecified injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Every year, millions are injured in U.S. traffic crashes—many with life-altering consequences. Approximately 2.2 million were injured in motor vehicle accidents in 2023 across the country, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, Matthew Meester may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, explained that the stress and challenges following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is essential for victims to hire an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim, as this ensures negotiations with insurance companies are handled on their behalf,” Bond said.

“Insurance companies often pressure victims into accepting quick settlements that are far less than what the case is truly worth. An experienced attorney will fight for their client’s rights to ensure they receive fair treatment and full compensation.”
