Teen Struck by White GMC at Foster Road and Woodland Street

ORCUTT, CA, (September 09, 2025) - A teen riding his scooter was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening in Orcutt, prompting an outpouring of support for his family.

Emergency lights poster. Luke suffered serious injuries Tuesday evening when a vehicle struck him near Foster Road and Woodland Street in Orcutt.

The crash occurred at about 6 p.m. near Foster Road and Woodland Street, directly in front of Ernest Righetti High School, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Investigators said a white GMC Yukon was traveling west on Foster when it hit 14-year-old Luke as he crossed the roadway.

Luke’s mother, Brittany Bruno, said her son had pressed the crosswalk signal and was crossing when the SUV failed to stop. Luke has been moved between hospitals as doctors treat multiple injuries.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with medical and recovery costs. Authorities have not released information about the GMC driver.

The CHP is continuing its investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

A motor vehicle driver can avoid crashes involving pedestrians—who are more likely to get hurt—by staying alert, traveling at safe speeds, and following pedestrian safety laws. Deaths from motor vehicle crashes with pedestrians have increased 78% and account for 18% of crash fatalities, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond stressed, “In most instances, pedestrians possess the right-of-way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless if they are in a marked crosswalk. A driver must yield to any pedestrian.”

Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Luke may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in collisions often pursue personal injury claims to recover costs related to medical bills, future treatment, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often reluctant to fully cover the mounting expenses victims face,” Bond added. “Having an experienced attorney ensures that injured parties are protected, and that insurance companies are held accountable for the financial and emotional toll these accidents cause.”
