Friday afternoon collision happened along Highway 512

MERCED, CA, (September 27, 2024) - A devastating crash on Friday afternoon along Highway 152, just east of Arroyo Avenue, resulted in the deaths of two individuals in Merced County.

Police Lights Marcy Robison Marcy Robison lost her life on Friday as the result of a wrong-way crash along Highway 512 in Merced County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 64-year-old man driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling east in the westbound lanes for approximately five to six miles before the fatal collision occurred.

A CHP Public Information Officer reported that the truck initially side-swiped another vehicle near Box Car Road. Several miles later, it collided head-on with a 2016 Honda Pilot, causing the truck to burst into flames.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Honda driver has been identified as 37-year-old Marcy Robison, a resource specialist at Bud Rank Elementary in Clovis.

The Merced County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the driver of the truck.

Authorities are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Wrong-way accidents can occur for numerous reasons, including driver error, distracted driving, and poor road design.

The most common cause of these accidents is driver error. However, the most common cause of wrong-way collisions is DUI, according to NTSB. Statistics show that impaired drivers cause up to 75 percent of all wrong-way crashes.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and require thorough examination,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Marcy Robison may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Bond.

“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected."
