SOMERS POINT, NJ, (July 17, 2025) - A tragic collision in Somers Point Thursday evening claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy from Egg Harbor Township. The fatal crash involved an electric bicycle and a passenger vehicle, according to the Somers Point Police Department.
A 14-year-old boy from Egg Harbor Township was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while riding his e-bike along Maryland Avenue in Somers Point
Authorities said the incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when 47-year-old Laryssa Foschini, of Philadelphia, was driving along Maryland Avenue and struck the teen at the intersection with the bike path. The teenager was riding an e-bike at the time of the crash.
The teen was initially taken to Atlantic Care Trauma Center and later airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries were reported in the incident, which remains under active investigation.
ELECTRIC BICYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
People driving in cars must be extra cautious to ensure the safety of vulnerable road users such as bicyclists and e-bike riders. Data from the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) shows that e-bike injury collisions in California surged 18.6-fold from 184 incidents in 2018 to 3,429 in 2023.
While the cause and liability of the crash are still being determined, Andrew G. Finkelstein, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices, stressed the importance of skilled legal representation in such investigations.
"It is essential to reconstruct the accident to identify all the vehicles involved and determine the circumstances that led to the accident or the driver at fault," Finkelstein said. “Insurance companies are never on the side of a victim injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident. According to the Insurance Research Institute, on average, an injured person who receives help from a lawyer ends up receiving three and a half times more money than those who do not.”
Finkelstein, a well-known attorney experienced in handling motorcycle and e-bike accident cases, noted that competent legal guidance is key to protecting a family’s rights and ensuring the best possible outcome during such a devastating time.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family members of the victim may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this tragic incident.
"People who get into an auto accident suffer unimaginable consequences in the form of mental and physical pain, and, in cases of fatalities, the victim's family and loved ones are left devastated," added Finkelstein.
"It is always recommended that, as a victim, you don't give statements right away after the crash to an insurance company. You might be in shock, and anything said at the time may lower the chances of getting justice. Hiring an attorney will be the best route to protect your rights," he added.
