DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
Every year, on the roads of the United States, hundreds of people are killed and thousands seriously injured in drunk driving crashes—crashes that are 100% preventable. Alcohol consumption considerably diminishes reaction time, impairs judgment, and affects motor skills, which compromises drivers' ability to operate a vehicle safely.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 4,428 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes in the state of California in 2022, the most of any state in the country. Among those victims, 1,479 died in crashes involving alcohol, per NHTSA data.
An independent investigation will be required to learn other potential factors in the case such as blood-alcohol content levels.
Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, was interviewed and provided her thoughts on incidents such as this.
“Separate from criminal charges, a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party, said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide an injured victim during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights, while ensuring that a driver who takes the wheel under the influence is held accountable for their actions.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Nadir Gavarrete may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic and catastrophic accident such as this.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“We understand the challenges families face during such difficult times, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney will remain involved in the investigation and work to safeguard the family’s legal rights and best interests.”
