Motorist Arrested After Crashing Into Disabled Vehicle on I-15 on July 8
APPLE VALLEY, CA, (July 08, 2025) - The San Bernardino County Coroner has confirmed that 40-year-old Juan Cabo was killed in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on July 8 along Interstate 15 in Apple Valley.
Juan Cabo tragically died on July 8 after the vehicle he was riding in, allegedly driven by an impaired motorist, crashed into a disabled pickup truck along Interstate 15 in Apple Valley.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cabo was a passenger in a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder traveling northbound on I-15 around 2:29 p.m. when the vehicle veered onto the shoulder near mile marker 59 and collided with a disabled 2022 Dodge Ram 3500 and its attached 2023 Cal Trailer.
Cabo was ejected from the vehicle upon impact and tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The 32-year-old North Hills man driving the Nissan was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
Every year, hundreds of lives are lost and thousands more are permanently altered due to drunk driving crashes on U.S. roads—tragic events that are entirely preventable. Alcohol severely impairs reaction time, judgment, and motor skills, rendering a person unfit to operate a vehicle safely.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 4,428 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents in California in 2022—the highest of any state. Of those fatalities, 1,479 involved alcohol.
An independent investigation is often critical in determining additional contributing factors, such as the blood-alcohol content of the at-fault driver.
Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a seasoned DUI accident attorney, stressed the importance of holding intoxicated drivers accountable not only through criminal charges but also civil actions.
“Separate from criminal charges, a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” Bond said. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party.”
Bond added that a dedicated legal advocate can guide victims or their families through the legal process with compassion, ensuring their rights are protected while helping to secure justice.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Juan Cabo may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims lost in tragic or catastrophic accidents may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, of counsel at Bond Legal.
“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected,” Bond added.
