87-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck by Pickup in Chula Vista Parking Facility

CHULA VISTA, CA, (July 30, 2025) - An 87-year-old woman was struck and killed Tuesday morning in a Chula Vista parking structure, authorities said.

Police Lights car crashAgustina Z. Acosta, 87, was tragically killed Tuesday morning in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in Chula Vista, according to a news release.

The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. in the 300 block of H Street, when a pickup truck rounding a corner inside the structure collided with the pedestrian, identified as Agustina Z. Acosta by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Acosta, a Chula Vista resident, was transported to a hospital, where she tragically died from her injuries. Police said drugs, alcohol, and speed were not factors in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Even at low speeds, collisions involving pedestrians can result in devastating injuries or fatalities, as pedestrians lack the protection provided by seat belts, airbags, or vehicle frames. In 2023, there were 4,354 deaths in crashes involving large trucks, with 17% of the victims being pedestrians, bicyclists, or motorcyclists, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

“In many situations, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing a street or intersection, whether or not they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “It is always the driver’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians.”

Bond emphasized that in addition to law enforcement investigations, a skilled attorney can provide critical support by re-interviewing witnesses, securing surveillance footage, and obtaining phone or texting records to help determine fault and pursue justice on behalf of the victim.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Agustina Z. Acosta may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim for the loss of love, companionship, and emotional support.

“The grief and hardship that follow the sudden loss of a loved one can be incredibly difficult to bear,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Our legal team understands the challenges families face in these moments. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation closely, advocate for the family’s legal rights, and work to secure the justice and compensation they deserve.”
