ANACORTES, WA, (July 02, 2025) - A 48-year-old Anacortes man was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash late Wednesday night involving another vehicle on Q Avenue, authorities said.

Motorcycle AccidentA 48-year-old Anacortes resident was tragically killed Wednesday night in a car vs. motorcycle crash on Q Avenue, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 10:17 p.m. in the 1700 block of Q Avenue near the Ace Hardware parking lot. According to preliminary reports, a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Josue Manuel Flores struck the motorcycle. When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist unconscious in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Flores was arrested the following day and booked into the Skagit County Justice Center in Mount Vernon on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Given their lack of protective features, motorcycles are especially vulnerable in collisions with larger vehicles equipped with seat belts, airbags, and reinforced frames. According to the National Safety Council, fatalities among motorcycle riders and passengers rose by 1% from 2022 to 2023.

“Motorcycle riders are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the roadways,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “They don’t have the protection that car occupants do, and even low-speed crashes can be catastrophic.”

Bond emphasized the importance of an independent investigation following fatal motorcycle crashes. “Accident reconstruction, expert analysis, and a detailed legal review are often necessary to determine fault and secure justice for the victim’s family,” she said. “These steps are vital to help families receive rightful compensation after such devastating losses.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of the victim killed in the Anacortes motorcycle crash may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other damages resulting from a catastrophic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death lawyer will stay informed on the investigation and work to ensure that the victim's legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
