Fatally hit by pickup on Dale Evans Parkway in San Bernardino County
SAN BERNARDINO, CA, (August 19, 2025) - A 53-year-old Apple Valley resident, Joe Dominguez II, lost his life on Aug. 19 after a tragic crash involving his motorized shopping cart in San Bernardino County.
Joe Dominguez II lost his life on Aug. 19 after his motorized shopping cart was hit by a pickup truck in San Bernardino County.
Authorities said Dominguez was traveling north along Dale Evans Parkway at approximately 8:40 p.m. when a 2002 Mazda B-Series pickup, driven by a 49-year-old man from Barstow, struck him from behind.
Dominguez was transported to a local hospital but, sadly, succumbed to his injuries. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the fatal collision.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Each year, approximately 100,000 people in wheelchairs and motorized shopping carts, which are often used for transportation, are struck by vehicles, resulting in a variety of serious injuries and fatalities. These types of accidents usually occur for three reasons:
• Average-sized wheelchairs and motorized shopping carts put riders at a low height, making it difficult for drivers to see wheelchairs.
• Electric wheelchairs and motorized shopping carts cannot speed up quickly, making it difficult for them to avoid a crash.
• Wheelchair and motorized shopping cart users may leave the sidewalk and travel on the road if the sidewalk is too narrow or contains obstacles.
Despite the Americans with Disabilities Act, many municipalities have not bothered to install curb cuts or maintain sidewalks, putting wheelchair users in danger. Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, stressed that in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted by a seasoned lawyer to help protect the family of a victim’s rights.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family members of Joe Dominguez II may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.
“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are taken care of. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
