Police officer arrested for DUI after Tuesday crash at U.S. Route 1 and East Palm Drive

MIAMI-DADE, FL, (September 02, 2025) - A police officer has been arrested on DUI-related charges following a hit-and-run crash in Miami-Dade County that left multiple people injured Tuesday.

Hit-and-Run DUIHenry Quintero faces DUI charges after fleeing a multi-vehicle crash that injured two people Tuesday in Miami-Dade County.

Authorities said a Honda CR-V, traveling at a high speed, ran a red light at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and East Palm Drive and struck a Ford Bronco. The impact caused the Bronco to overturn and crash into a Ford Mustang before both vehicles came to rest.

One driver and a passenger in the Mustang sustained injuries in the collision.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 43-year-old Homestead Police Officer Henry Quintero, fled the scene after making a U-turn. He was later tracked down and taken into custody on charges of DUI, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.

HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, but sadly, statistics indicate that approximately 11 percent of all crashes involve a hit-and-run driver. In most cases involving hit-and-runs, the at-fault drivers feel they can avoid the consequences of their actions if they leave the scene. However, a suspect will be charged when apprehended.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approximately 140,000 pedestrians received medical treatment for non-fatal crash-related injuries in 2022.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said in such cases is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney promptly to protect the rights of a victim.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be fully considered. These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has been injured by a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. Pending an investigation, the victims may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Bond noted that stress from an injury can be overwhelming, disrupting all aspects of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is vital for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows them to negotiate with an insurance company for a client,” Bond said.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their clients to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
