According to police, 21-year-old Halie Renae Johnson was killed Friday night in Port Aransas when two vehicles collided head-on.
The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Halie Renae Johnson. According to Port Aransas police, a pickup truck driven by a 53-year-old man veered into the southbound lane for unknown reasons and collided with Johnson’s Volkswagen. Johnson died at the scene, while the 53-year-old driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the pickup driver is expected to face charges. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Experts say due to the combined impact force and the direction of energy transfer in a head-on collision, there is always a possibility that a vehicle occupant may be severely injured or killed. Driver negligence, including distraction, excessive speed, and improper passing, are the main contributing factors in these crashes. Although only 2% of motor vehicle accidents are head-on in the United States, they account for over 10 % of all crash-related fatalities.
Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted into the crash by a seasoned lawyer to protect the rights of the victim’s family.
“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of the victim must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Halie Renae Johnson may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.
“The stress and grief can be overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“We understand what families are forced to endure, and protecting their rights is essential.”
