Morton killed after being struck while horseback riding on SR 371 in Anza
ANZA, CA, (August 31, 2025) - A U.S. Air Force veteran and mother of three was killed Sunday evening in a horseback riding accident on State Route 371.
Monique Morton was tragically killed Sunday in Anza after being struck by a vehicle while horseback riding.
Monique Morton, 47, was struck by a vehicle driven by a 70-year-old woman around 9 p.m. Another rider, a 34-year-old Temecula woman, was seriously injured. Morton's husband was a few feet ahead when the accident occurred.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Drivers can hit innocent horseback riders due to distraction, impatience with slow traffic, or inadequate hazard perception.
Speeding and swerving increase these risks, as does underestimating the dangers associated with horses. While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.
“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate. “Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of a victim must be assured that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family members of Monique Morton may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.
“We understand exactly what families must endure, and protecting their rights is vital,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are safeguarded.”
