Early Sunday collision happened along County Road 256

RANDOLPH, GA, (August 25, 2024) - A tragic ATV accident in north Alabama resulted in the death of a Georgia woman and left an Alabama woman critically injured.

Police Lights Emily LongEmily Long tragically lost her life early Sunday morning in an ATV crash along Randolph County Road 256.

The incident occurred just after midnight on Sunday in Randolph County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, neither woman was wearing a seat belt, leading to their partial ejection from the Honda Pioneer 1000 ATV. The ATV overturned around 12:10 a.m. on Randolph County Road 256, near Randolph County Road 2564, approximately eight miles north of Wedowee.

Emily S. Long, age 51, from Canton, was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.

The second victim, a 49-year-old resident of Wedowee, was flown to WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta. Details about her injuries have not been disclosed.

State troopers are continuing their investigation into the incident.

ATV ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

According to Consumer Product Safety Commission statistics, about 568 adults and 144 children die each year in ATV crashes, and many more are injured.

Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Newsline, said in such cases, it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted sooner rather than later to preserve any evidence.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond.

“Your lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what can be a complicated process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Emily Long could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
