The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. in Clinton Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 46-year-old Fremont man was driving south on Township Road 15 when he failed to yield at a stop sign, colliding with a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old woman from Republic, who was heading east on Ohio 18.

The first vehicle hit a traffic sign and overturned into a field at the southeast corner of the intersection, while the second vehicle also struck a traffic sign and came to rest in the same field.

Both the driver and another passenger, a 40-year-old Fremont resident, were ejected from the vehicle and transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.

The second driver sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

None of the occupants of the first vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to OSHP.

The accident is under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Stop sign runners cause hundreds of deaths and tens of thousands of injuries each year.

In 2018, 846 people were killed in crashes that involved red-light running. About half of those killed were pedestrians, bicyclists, and people in other vehicles who were hit by the red-light runners," said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

In 2018, an estimated 139,000 people were injured in red-light running crashes.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family of Destiny Stines may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this.

Bond, who is the national analyst for Newsline, said “Grieving families of victims are sometimes overwhelmed by the legal processes that are in place to protect their rights. An attorney can be a valuable and compassionate resource to help guide a family during this difficult time, and ensure that those left behind receive the restitution they are entitled to.”
