The 65-year-old was hit by an e-scooter along James M. Wood Boulevard, authorities say

KOREATOWN, CA, (September 12, 2024) - After being struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Koreatown, 65-year-old Danny Kim did not want to be taken to the hospital. However, he passed away two days later at a hospital, officials said.

Hit and Run posterDanny Kim, 65, lost his life as a result of being hit by an e-scooter along James M. Wood Boulevard in Koreatown Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

The tragedy unfolded around 4:50 p.m. in the 2800 block of James M. Wood Boulevard.

According to preliminary findings, a woman and a man were illegally riding electric scooters on the sidewalk when the woman slammed into Kim, who, along with his wife, had been walking to a restaurant. The Los Angeles police are investigating the incident as a felony hit-and-run, as the pair riding the scooters did not stop at the scene.

Kim suffered injuries to his head, but he refused treatment. Tragically, he later died at a hospital.

Anyone with additional information can contact the LAPD.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Failure to remain on the collision site can attract criminal charges, and the victim can also pursue a case against the driver.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (COTS), in 2018, around 893 pedestrians were killed on California roadways, a 26% increase from 2014.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Added Bond, the national analyst for Newsline, “The driver always has to take great care behind the wheel.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Danny Kim may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that the victim's legal rights and best interests are protected.”
