Fatal Rear-End Collision on Interstate 5 Near Valpredo Avenue Kills Corrine Vives
September 17, 2025 | Kern, CA
A fatal collision involving a semi-truck claimed the life of 27-year-old Corrine Danielle Vives of Covina on Sept. 17 in Kern County. Vives’ Kia Sorento was rear-ended on southbound I-5 near Valpredo Avenue around 3:10 a.m., leaving both vehicles in the center divider.
The truck driver was not injured. Authorities are still investigating the crash.
Corrine Vives was tragically killed Sept. 17 when a tractor-trailer rear-ended her vehicle on Interstate 5 in Kern County, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.
CRASH INVESTIGATION
A fully loaded tractor-trailer can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, and when a rig rear-ends a smaller passenger vehicle, the results are often tragic. Semi-truck crashes are caused by a variety of factors — including tire blowouts, mechanical failures, improper maneuvering, lane drifting, excessive speed, driver fatigue, and sudden loss of control.
According to the National Safety Council (NSC), an estimated 150,000 people are injured in large truck accidents each year. Sadly, these crashes also claim approximately 4,900 lives annually.
Candice Bond, an experienced commercial accident attorney, said that in such cases, it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted promptly to protect the rights of a victim.
"Commercial vehicle crashes are often complex, and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents," said Bond, who is a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
"A skilled attorney can protect victims from trucking companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize to defend a negligent truck driver.
"Your lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting driver background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding a victim through the legal process."
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family of Corrine Vives may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.
“The stress and sorrow after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Bond, of counsel at Bond Legal.
“Understanding what families are going through and protecting their rights is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay informed on the investigation and work to ensure the family’s legal rights and best interests are safeguarded,” Bond added.
“An attorney can protect victims from large insurance companies and their legal teams while thoroughly examining the facts of the accident. They will vigorously advocate for a family who has lost a loved one, ensuring their rights are fully protected.”
