Victim Killed in Honda Collision at Van Nuys and Burbank Boulevards

VAN NUYS, CA, (September 03, 2025) - The Los Angeles community is mourning the loss of Brethya Parada, 24, who died early Sept. 3 after a Honda Civic ran a red light and struck her car in Van Nuys.

Authorities on Thursday identified a 24-year-old woman tragically killed when a car ran a red light Sept. 3 in Van Nuys.Brethya Parada, driving a Mercedes, was killed when a Honda Civic ran a red light and struck her vehicle at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard, police said.

According to police, Parada was driving her Mercedes-Benz C300 north on Van Nuys Boulevard at about 1:45 a.m. when the eastbound Honda Civic ignored a red light and hit the driver’s side of her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Parada, on her way home from work, is remembered by her family and friends. A GoFundMe has been created to assist with funeral costs as her loved ones cope with the tragedy.

Van Nuys is located in the central San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles.

FATAL RED-LIGHT ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Traffic laws clearly state that drivers must stop at all stop lights. Unfortunately, motorists do not always abide by these laws, resulting in accidents such as the one that took Parada's life.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, approximately 40% of automobile collisions take place at road intersections, and the cause is usually related to running a stop sign or a stoplight. Some of the reasons drivers blow through stoplights are impatience, reckless driving, and distracted driving.

Regardless of the findings of any police investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stressed that it is imperative to hire an attorney to conduct an independent probe into the cause of the crash to secure evidence and protect the rights of a grieving family.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and a grieving family must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for The Legal Advocate. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney will carefully examine what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide families during this difficult time, while protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Brethya Parada may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of love and companionship, funeral costs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “We understand what families are going through, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death lawyer will monitor the official investigation and help ensure the family’s legal rights and best interests are safeguarded.”
