Four Charged in Fatal June 29 Crash on Garden State Parkway
WOODBRIDGE, NJ, (June 29, 2025) - Authorities have released new details in connection with a deadly June 29 crash on the Garden State Parkway in Woodbridge that stemmed from an alleged street racing incident and led to multiple criminal charges.
Albion Hysenaj was fatally injured on June 29 when a street-racing BMW crashed, overturned, and struck multiple trees along the Garden State Parkway in Woodbridge.
According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, a BMW X3 SUV and a BMW X5 sedan were racing southbound on the Garden State Parkway shortly after 7 p.m. when the X3 struck two other vehicles near mile marker 130. The SUV left the roadway, overturned, and collided with several trees.
A passenger in the X3, identified as 20-year-old Albion Hysenaj of Staten Island, New York, was ejected and tragically pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center. Another passenger in the vehicle was hospitalized in unknown condition.
The 20-year-old driver of the X3 fled the scene and allegedly tried to flee the country via Florida. He has since been apprehended and faces multiple charges, including first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide, and second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a deadly crash. His mother is also facing a third-degree hindering charge for allegedly aiding his attempted escape.
The 23-year-old driver of the X5 was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, third-degree endangering another, and fourth-degree assault by auto. A 19-year-old female passenger in the X5, who also fled the scene, has been charged as well.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Victims like Albion Hysenaj are killed in vehicle accidents across the country every day—often through no fault of their own. Tragically, street racing is becoming increasingly common, and many innocent lives are lost as a result. These crashes are particularly dangerous because racers often drive recklessly or at excessive speeds.
According to the National Safety Council (NSC), speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2022, killing 12,151 people. In New Jersey alone, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports 685 people lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents that same year.
While the investigation into this crash continues, Andrew G. Finkelstein, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices, emphasized the need for a skilled attorney to help the victim’s family seek justice.
“It is essential to reconstruct the accident to identify all the vehicles involved and determine the circumstances that led to the crash,” Finkelstein said. “Insurance companies are never on the side of a victim injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident.”
He also noted, “According to the Insurance Research Institute, on average, an injured person who receives help from a lawyer ends up receiving three and a half times more money than those who do not.”
Experienced attorneys like Finkelstein can play a crucial role in protecting the rights of grieving families, ensuring they receive the support and compensation they deserve.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the ongoing investigation, the family of Albion Hysenaj may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims allow surviving loved ones to seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering following a catastrophic event.
“People who get into an auto accident suffer unimaginable consequences in the form of mental and physical pain, and, in cases of fatalities, the victim's family and loved ones are left devastated,” said Andrew G. Finkelstein, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices.
“It is always recommended that, as a victim, you don't give statements right away after the crash to an insurance company,” Finkelstein added. “You might be in shock, and anything said at the time may lower the chances of getting justice. Hiring an attorney will be the best route to protect your rights.”
