Crash triggered by Ford SUV running red light from State Route 92 off-ramp
July 31, 2025 | San Mateo, CA
A 30-year-old San Francisco mother was tragically killed, and her two young sons were critically injured, after a driver ran a red light Thursday evening in San Mateo.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Yina Marcela Ramos Bello was driving a Toyota Prius northbound on Alameda de las Pulgas around 6:17 p.m. with her 5- and 7-year-old sons as passengers when a Ford SUV ran a red light from the eastbound State Route 92 off-ramp.
Yina Marcela Ramos Bello was killed and her two sons critically injured in a crash between a Toyota Prius and a Ford SUV on Alameda de las Pulgas near the State Route 92 off-ramp.
Ramos Bello was pronounced dead at the scene, and both children were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
FATAL STOP-LIGHT ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
San Mateo police are working to determine why the driver of the Ford failed to stop for the red light. His identity is being withheld.
Traffic laws clearly state that drivers must stop at all stop lights. Unfortunately, motorists do not always abide by these laws, resulting in accidents such as the one that took Ramos Bello's life and seriously injured the boys.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, approximately 40% of automobile collisions take place at road intersections, and the cause is usually related to running a stop sign or a stoplight. Some of the reasons drivers blow through stoplights are impatience, reckless driving, and distracted driving.
Regardless of the findings of any police investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stressed that it is imperative to hire an attorney to conduct an independent probe into the cause of the crash to secure evidence and protect the rights of a grieving family.
“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and a grieving family must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Newsline. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney will carefully examine what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide families during this difficult time, while protecting their legal rights and best interests.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Yina Marcela Ramos Bello may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of wrongful death victims can pursue compensation for funeral expenses, loss of love and companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering after a devastating accident like this.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “We understand what families are forced to endure, and it’s crucial that their rights are protected. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and work to ensure the family’s legal rights and best interests are upheld.”
In addition, the 5- and 7-year-old boys injured in the crash may also have grounds for personal injury claims, which could include compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
