Passenger hit after exiting Dodge following chain-reaction crash

A 19-year-old LaPlace resident succumbed to injuries six days after he was hit by a vehicle while walking near a chain-reaction collision on Interstate 10. 

Louisiana State Police continue to examine the sequence of events that led to the fatal incident.

What Happened in the LaPlace Pedestrian Crash?

  • Victim: William Ferguson, 19, of LaPlace
  • Initial collision: Nissan and Honda collided shortly before 2:30 a.m., disabling the Honda in the roadway
  • Secondary collision: A Dodge Charger struck the disabled Honda
  • Fatal strike: Ferguson, a passenger in the first Dodge Charger, exited the vehicle and was walking near the scene when struck by a second Dodge Charger
  • Outcome: Ferguson was transported to a hospital with critical injuries and died on November 6, 2025
