Ballou was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 6,335 motorcyclists were killed in traffic crashes in 2023, accounting for 15% of all traffic fatalities and marking a 1.3% increase from 2022. While fatalities rose, motorcyclist injuries slightly declined, with an estimated 82,564 reported—a 0.2% decrease from the previous year.

“Motorcycle riders are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the roadways, given the fact that there are no airbags or sturdy windows to protect them from an impact,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Bond emphasized the importance of thorough investigations following motorcycle crashes. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” she said.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be thoroughly examined,” Bond added, noting that a detailed legal probe is often essential to securing justice and fair compensation for victims and their families.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of William Ballou may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident like this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“Unfortunately, insurance companies are notoriously unconcerned with your mounting medical bills and proper compensation,” Bond added. “It’s important to know your rights and take immediate steps to protect them.”
