Hit-and-Run on Highway 168 West of Shields Avenue

FRESNO, CA, (August 22, 2025) - A 27-year-old man was tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday around midnight on westbound Highway 168, west of Shields Avenue in Fresno.

hit and run crashThawon Pho, a motorcyclist, was killed in a hit-and-run collision on westbound Highway 168 near Shields Avenue in Fresno Friday around midnight, authorities said.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Thawon Pho. According to the California Highway Patrol, Pho was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle in the middle lane when a Hyundai Elantra traveling at high speed struck him from behind. The impact threw Pho onto the Hyundai’s windshield, and several additional vehicles hit him as he lay on the roadway.

The Hyundai fled the scene but eventually stopped on the highway shoulder. Authorities said the driver abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot, and a search is ongoing. The investigation remains active.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Leaving the scene of a crash is both reckless and inhumane. Abandoning an injured person may deny them the life-saving help they desperately need. There were 2,872 fatalities in traffic crashes involving hit-and-run drivers in 2023. Of the 7,314 pedestrian fatalities, 1,818 (25%) were involved in hit-and-run crashes in 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association.

“Motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, noted that in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent investigation into the crash conducted by a seasoned lawyer to protect the rights of the victim's family.

“Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists often cause these types of collisions. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time, protecting their rights while ensuring that a driver is held accountable if they do not obey traffic laws.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Thawon Pho may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
