Firefighters rushed to a two-story duplex on Phyllis Drive in Thiells following reports of heavy smoke on Jan. 15. The blaze, which originated from what appeared to be a garbage can fire, quickly spread into the building, triggering a first alarm assignment at 11:14 a.m. Responders from Rockland County received support from mutual aid units en route to the scene.
