A small rug fire in the common hallway of a five-story apartment building was quickly extinguished, resulting in smoke damage but no reported injuries. The incident occurred Jan. 16 at approximately 7:13 p.m. at 150 River St. in Troy. Firefighters responded to reports of a fire on the third floor. The blaze, which started from a rug, was put out using a fire extinguisher. Smoke filled the hallway but was contained to that area, with no extension to other parts of the building.

One firefighter and one other individual were held for observation, but there were no transports to the hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
