CHULA VISTA, CA, (July 10, 2025) - Four people were injured Thursday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a medical triage tent outside the emergency room at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.
Four people were injured Thursday afternoon when a vehicle slammed into a medical triage tent located in the emergency room parking lot at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.
The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. in the hospital’s parking lot at 751 Medical Center Court. According to authorities, 33-year-old Sergio Jimenez was driving a Honda Accord when he entered the lot and collided with the tent. Three individuals inside the tent were injured in the crash.
Prior to striking the tent, the vehicle reportedly hit a gurney positioned behind an ambulance. A nearby medic was injured as a result and transported to the hospital for treatment.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jimenez restrained by hospital staff. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, a felony offense.
The crash remains under investigation.
DUI CRASH INVESTIGATION
Driving while under the influence of any substance—whether legal or illegal—poses a serious threat to the safety of other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drugs other than alcohol contribute to roughly 18 percent of all motor vehicle driver deaths nationwide. In 2021 alone, nearly 11,000 lives were lost in drug-involved traffic crashes.
Candice Bond, a seasoned DUI accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal, weighed in on the broader impact of such incidents.
“Beyond any criminal charges, victims may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the at-fault party,” Bond explained. “As advocates, attorneys play a crucial role in guiding clients through these difficult times—protecting their rights and holding impaired drivers accountable for their reckless behavior.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
The individuals injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Candice Bond, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, emphasized that the stress and disruption caused by a serious injury can significantly impact all areas of life, including family responsibilities, employment, finances, and overall well-being.
"While financial compensation cannot undo the harm suffered, it’s essential that victims understand their legal rights and options," Bond stated. "Those injured in this incident may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, ongoing treatment, pain and suffering, and emotional distress."
