Fatal Collision Occurred September 21 on Interstate 35

September 21, 2025 | Laredo, TX

A pedestrian was killed on Interstate 35 in Laredo on September 21, authorities said. Sebastian Guerrero, 33, died after being hit by a blue Toyota at approximately 5:45 a.m. in the 4500 block of the highway. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Sebastian GuerreroSebastian Guerrero tragically died early Sunday morning in Laredo after being struck by a blue Toyota on southbound I-35.

Police confirmed that there were no signs of intoxication in the driver. The Laredo Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Texas recorded 808 pedestrian fatalities and 5,924 pedestrian-involved crashes in 2023, representing a 22% increase in pedestrian deaths from 2019-2023, according to TxDOT data.

Although pedestrians are involved in only 1% of all Texas traffic crashes, they account for 19% of all roadway deaths. The leading causes include drivers failing to yield right-of-way and driver inattention.

The Governors Highway Safety Association says one reason for the increase is many people are driving SUVs and pickups and it's harder for them to see pedestrians. This is part of a national trend that's seen a nearly 60% increase in pedestrian fatalities since 2013.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. The family of Sebastian Guerrero may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Relatives of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic accident,” Bond explained.

An attorney can serve as an advocate, guiding families through this difficult time while ensuring their legal rights are protected.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure families into accepting a quick settlement far below the value of the case,” Bond added. “A skilled attorney will advocate vigorously to ensure the family is treated with respect and receives fair compensation.”
