Deadly collision happened along State Highway 18 near Quinault Road, officials say

December 23, 2024 | Apple Valley, CA

A suspected impaired driver was traveling the wrong way when he crashed his SUV head-on into another car Monday night in Apple Valley. Tragically, the car driver was killed in the collision. Officials identified the victim as 30-year-old Samantha Haun, also known as Alex Robles of Victorville.

police lights car crashSamantha Haun, a 30-year-old Victorville resident, lost her life as a result of a head-on collision with an allegedly intoxicated driver Monday night in Apple Valley, authorities said.

According to preliminary findings, a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander was heading west in the eastbound lanes of State Highway 18 near Quinault Road at approximately 8 p.m. when it slammed into Haun's 2016 Honda Civic. The driver of the Outlander, officials said, exhibited signs of intoxication and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI causing death and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Anyone with additional information about the case was urged to contact police at (760) 240-7400.

This is an ongoing investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The death of the victim underscores the dangers of drunk driving, which, most experts say, is 100% preventable. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around 1,479 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes involving alcohol in the state of California in 2022.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Samantha Haun may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Bond, a national analyst for Newsline.

“If you have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence, contact a wrongful death attorney and get the guidance needed to obtain the justice you deserve.”
