Legal Insights

National legal analysts emphasize the need for thorough investigations in motor vehicle crashes involving pursuits.

“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process,” said Candice Bond, managing partner with Bond Legal.

Key takeaways from analyst perspectives on cases such as this:

  • Independent investigations help preserve vital evidence beyond initial police reports.
  • Legal support can involve background checks on drivers and witness location.
  • Attorneys assist in navigating insurance claims and potential liabilities.

“Pending the investigation, the family of a victim may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this," said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

"The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident. We understand just what families are forced to go through, and protecting their rights is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected," added Formica.

Mendoza faces felony murder charges linked to the passenger's death, plus a weapons charge due to the handgun found in the car.
