Why Do These Accidents Happen?

Drunk driving remains a significant contributor to fatal crashes across the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), alcohol-impaired driving accounts for about 30% of all traffic-related deaths annually.

Common factors in such incidents include:

  • Impaired judgment and decision-making
  • Reduced reaction times and coordination
  • Poor vision and spatial awareness

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) notes that passing maneuvers on two-lane highways like U.S. 491 heighten risks, especially when combined with substance impairment.
