HEAD-ON ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Rand Carlson, a 20-year-old Park City resident, was tragically killed Sunday night in a head-on crash north of Rockvale, Carbon County.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, Carlson was driving a GMC Sierra northbound on Highway 310 near mile marker 45 when a southbound Jeep Cherokee entered the wrong lane and struck him head-on at around 10:30 p.m. The Jeep’s driver, a 29-year-old woman from Roberts, sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital in Billings.

Based on preliminary reports, the Jeep driver appears clearly liable for the crash, as she was traveling the wrong way in the northbound lane. Authorities suspect alcohol and speed played roles in the collision.

Head-on accidents, though accounting for only 2% of crashes nationwide, result in 10% of traffic fatalities due to the often high-speed impact. AAA reports more than 2,000 such deaths occurred on divided highways between 2015 and 2018.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted, “The most common cause of head-on accidents is driver error, but drunk driving, speeding, and distractions are also major factors. When someone’s negligence causes fatal harm, they must be held accountable.”

Bond emphasized the importance of a thorough legal investigation to determine all contributing factors beyond the police findings.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Rand Carlson may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for funeral and medical expenses, loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“An incident is considered a wrongful death when a person or entity commits a negligent or wrongful act resulting in someone’s death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand the immense challenges grieving families face, and it’s critical that their rights are protected,” added Bond. “A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation closely and advocate for the family’s best interests. Sadly, insurance companies often prioritize their bottom line over fair compensation, which is why families must act swiftly to understand and protect their rights.”
