Firefighters tackled a hazardous materials incident after several electric bikes burst into flames inside a storage unit at 47-30 29th St. on March 19. The fire broke out around 8:46 a.m., leading crews to deploy two hose lines to extinguish the blaze. Given the involvement of lithium-ion batteries in the e-bikes, a specialized haz-mat team was summoned to safely manage and pack the batteries.
