Driver Arrested After Fatally Striking Jogger on Madison Avenue Sunday Morning

NEWFIELD, NJ, (August 24, 2025) - A jogger was killed Sunday morning in Newfield in a hit-and-run incident, and the alleged driver is now facing criminal charges, according to the Franklin Township Police Department.

pedestrian hit killedMckeon Mckeon-Fish died Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run while jogging on Madison Avenue in Newfield.

Officials identified the victim as 35-year-old Mckeon C. Mckeon-Fish, who was running southbound in the 300 block of Madison Avenue when he was struck near Dalton Avenue around 8:10 a.m. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver initially fled but later called authorities, admitting involvement. He was located along Catawba Avenue, arrested, and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, alongside local police, continues to investigate the fatal incident.

HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, but statistics indicate that approximately 11 percent of all crashes involve a hit-and-run driver.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), from 2018 to 2022, over 4 million people were involved in hit-and-run accidents. More than 12,000 of these incidents involved fatalities. In New Jersey, 38 pedestrians were killed in hit-and-run accidents in 2023, according to New Jersey State Police statistics

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Andrew G. Finkelstein, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices, said it is important that a competent attorney handles investigations into cases such as this to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“It becomes essential to reconstruct the accident to identify all the parties involved and determine the circumstances that led to the accident.”

“Insurance companies are never on the side of a victim injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident,” said Finkelstein, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney.

“According to the Insurance Research Institute, on average, an injured person who receives help from a lawyer ends up receiving three and a half times more money than those who do not.” Well-known lawyers like Finkelstein are experienced in such aspects and can help protect your rights by guiding every step of the process.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Eryn Montgomery may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Such a claim could allow family members to seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“People involved in accidents like this endure unimaginable physical and mental pain, and in cases of fatalities, the victim’s family and loved ones are left devastated,” said Finkelstein, a national legal analyst with The Legal Advocate.

“As a pedestrian accident victim, you may face an insurance company expert who attempts to assign partial or full blame to you. The situation becomes even more tragic when the pedestrian dies and loved ones are told the victim was at fault. Insurance companies do this to reduce payouts and increase profits, and they are very skilled at it.

“You should never provide a statement directly to the insurance company. The best course of action is to hire an experienced pedestrian accident attorney capable of taking on the insurance company and advocating for you as a victim—or for your loved one who can no longer speak for themselves,” Finkelstein added.
