Deadly collision at Buena Vista Boulevard and Adobe Road claims lives of two Bakersfield men
LAMONT, CA, (July 20, 2024) - A head-on collision occurred between an SUV and pickup early Saturday west of Lamont, resulting in two fatalities and a minor injury, officials said in a release.
Bakersfield residents Martin Martinez Gallegos, 52, and Gabriel Martinez Torres, 45, were killed in a two-vehicle collision early Saturday west of Lamont, according to officials.
According to the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) report, a Chevy Tahoe and a Chevy Silverado collided at approximately 2 a.m. in the area of Buena Vista Boulevard and Adobe Road. At the time of the crash, the Tahoe was traveling east while the Silverado was headed west.
The drivers—Martin Martinez Gallegos, 52, and Gabriel Martinez Torres, 45, both from Bakersfield—died at the scene.
A passenger in Gallegos’ vehicle was transported to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.
This is an active investigation.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.
