Why do these accidents happen?

Wrong-way crashes frequently involve impaired driving. Data from the National Transportation Safety Board indicates that drivers under the influence account for as many as 75 percent of such collisions. Additional factors such as road layout, visibility, and lighting are routinely examined during investigations.

Legal Insights

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and require thorough examination. An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision.”

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, offered this perspective on cases like this.

“Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering. Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned about the mounting costs an injured party may incur. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes.”

Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal, added these points for cases such as this.

Key takeaways in cases such as this

  • A thorough investigation can identify all contributing factors
  • Reconstruction specialists help clarify the sequence of the crash
  • Victims may pursue compensation for medical costs and other losses
  • Legal representation can assist with insurance negotiations
