Bakersfield authorities have charged 42-year-old local resident Pedro Contreras following a deadly hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a woman walking along Belle Terrace. 

The crash unfolded in the 200 block of the roadway, where a vehicle veered off course, striking the pedestrian who succumbed to injuries at the scene. 

Witnesses reported the driver fleeing eastward in a dark sedan, prompting a swift police response that led to Contreras's arrest.
