The 63-year-old was struck along Hoover Street near 79th Street, authorities say

VERMONT KNOLLS, CA, (September 02, 2024) - A bicyclist was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash on Labor Day night in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of South Los Angeles, police said in a release.

Hit and Run posterKennedy Coleman, 63, was badly hurt following a hit-and-run collision that happened on Labor Day along Hoover Street in Vermont Knolls, according to authorities.

The incident happened on Hoover Street near 79th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Based on preliminary reports, 63-year-old Kennedy Coleman was riding his bicycle along Hoover around 10:30 p.m., and as he attempted to get up, he was hit by a car. The vehicle dragged Coleman several feet, resulting in significant injuries.

The 63-year-old was rushed to the hospital. He faces a long road to recovery.

Anyone with information about the driver who fled the scene was urged to call 323-421-2500.

The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, but sadly statistics indicate that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were approximately 811,000 hit-and-run crashes in the United States in 2019. These crashes resulted in approximately 2,000 fatalities and 82,000 injuries.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said in cases such as this it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney in a timely manner to protect a victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, Kennedy Coleman may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Bond noted that the stress and worry following a serious injury can be overwhelming, disrupting all aspects of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is vital for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows them to negotiate with an insurance company on behalf of a client,” said Stefano Formica, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
