Man Fatally Struck by SUV Early Sunday on Grand Avenue

SAN DIEGO, CA, (July 27, 2025) - A 31-year-old pedestrian, Jorge Garcia Jr. of Alpine, was tragically killed early Sunday morning after being struck by an SUV while crossing Grand Avenue in San Diego.

Pedestrian AccidentJorge Garcia Jr. was fatally struck by an SUV early Sunday morning while crossing Grand Avenue in San Diego.

The incident occurred around 2:58 a.m. in the 1800 block of Grand Avenue, according to authorities. Garcia sustained fatal blunt force injuries and died at the scene.

The San Diego Police Department is investigating the crash.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite legal protections, pedestrians remain among the most vulnerable users of roads across the United States. Each day, individuals on foot are seriously injured or killed by motorists who are distracted, impaired, speeding, or fail to heed traffic signals.

In 2023, California led the nation in pedestrian fatalities, with 1,099 deaths reported, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). The agency attributed the rise in deaths to reckless driving behaviors—such as speeding, impaired or drugged driving, and distraction—as well as infrastructure design that often prioritizes vehicles over pedestrian safety.

While drivers are typically required to yield to pedestrians, countless individuals still face daily dangers simply walking along or crossing the street.

“Road conditions, lighting, and visibility are among several contributing factors that are thoroughly examined in these cases,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Often, an accident reconstruction team is necessary to accurately determine the cause of the incident,” added Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney. “These resources play a vital role in helping families pursue justice and secure the compensation they deserve after a tragic loss.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. The family of Jorge Garcia Jr. may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of victims in wrongful death cases may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and funeral expenses following a tragic incident,” Bond added.

An experienced attorney can serve as a compassionate advocate, helping guide grieving families through the legal process while protecting their rights.

“Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families into quick settlements for far less than they deserve,” Bond noted. “Having skilled legal representation ensures that victims' families are treated with dignity and receive fair compensation.”
