Thursday's collision sends four pedestrians to the Mercy Hospital St. Louis, MSHP says
September 26, 2024 | Franklin, MO
Three men from St. Louis and a Florissant resident were seriously hurt in a crash Thursday afternoon in Villa Ridge, the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said.
All the victims were transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment, MSHP said in a release.
St. Louis resident Johnathan Jones and three other men were seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in Franklin County’s Villa Ridge Thursday afternoon, the MSHP said.
According to the Highway Patrol’s report, all the victims had parked their vehicles—a 2007 Dodge Ram and a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban—along Interstate 44 at mile marker 250 to replace a tire. Meanwhile, a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 27-year-old Rolla man was traveling westbound on the highway around 2:32 p.m. when it attempted to slow for traffic ahead. The truck driver, however, lost control and crashed into the Ram, which subsequently collided with the pedestrians, pinning them against the Suburban.
Johnathan Jones, a 46-year-old St. Louis resident, was one of the injured pedestrians.
This is an active investigation.
PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 104,000 pedestrians were injured in crashes and transported to local emergency rooms in 2020. These crashes are often caused by factors such as distracted driving, speeding, and failing to yield to a pedestrian.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney and a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
Bond stressed: “In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street regardless of if they are in a marked crosswalk. It is always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Johnathan Jones may have the right to pursue a personal injury suit pending an investigation.
Stefano Formica, of Counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”
“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with mounting expenses that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” Formica added.
