Long Beach hit-and-run kills 39-year-old woman

LONG BEACH, CA, (September 12, 2025) - Jasmine Martinez, 39, was killed Friday afternoon in a hit-and-run accident near Long Beach Boulevard and 68th Street, authorities confirmed.

Pedestrian Accident Poster.Jasmine Martinez, 39, was tragically killed Friday afternoon in Long Beach after being struck by a hit-and-run driver, authorities reported.

Investigators said a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro traveling south on Long Beach Boulevard struck Martinez while she was crossing in a crosswalk at about 12:16 p.m. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver fled but was apprehended about 30 minutes after the crash and booked into Long Beach City Jail. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Even a minute's delay in medical attention after a serious crash can cost a life. Leaving the scene helps no one — not the victim, and not the driver. Nearly 65 percent of people killed in hit-and-run crashes were pedestrians or bicyclists, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Added Bond, the national analyst for The Legal Advocate, “The driver always has to take great care behind the wheel.”

An attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Jasmine Martinez may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, said, “The stress and sorrow can be overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident. A wrongful death attorney will remain informed on the official investigation and help ensure that the victim’s legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
