Janet Scott tragically died Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 16 in Madison County.

The crash remains under investigation.
HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION
Head-on accidents are among the most serious motor vehicle crashes due to the force involved between two drivers usually traveling at a high speed. The most common cause of head-on accidents is driver error. However, they are also caused by speeding, distracted driving, drunken driving, poor road design, inexperienced drivers, and confusion from the driver.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 732 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the state of Mississippi in 2023, accounting for an increase of approximately 4 percent.
“Contributing factors to be examined include road conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Janet Scott may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.
“The stress and sorrow after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“Experienced wrongful death attorneys monitor the official investigation and work to protect the family’s legal rights and best interests,” Bond added.
“An attorney also safeguards victims from large insurance companies while carefully reviewing the facts of the accident. They advocate vigorously for families who have lost a loved one, ensuring fair treatment and proper compensation.”
