CHP investigates early Wednesday crash on State Route 54

CHULA VISTA, CA, (September 12, 2025) - Jalen Faith Sealee, 21, of Chula Vista, died Wednesday after a single-vehicle accident on State Route 54.

SpeedwayJalen Sealee died early Wednesday from injuries sustained in a rollover crash on State Route 54 in Chula Vista.

Authorities said the vehicle she was in was traveling eastbound near Highland Avenue shortly after 12:50 a.m. when it left the roadway and overturned on an embankment.

Responders pulled Sealee from the wreck and took her to UCSD Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, with additional information pending.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 4,428 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes in the state of California in 2022, the most of any state in the country.

The NHTSA says speeding is the primary cause of fatal crashes, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process.”

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Jalen Sealee may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain, and suffering following a tragic accident.

“The grief and stress after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and ensure the family’s best interests are represented.”

“An attorney can advocate for victims against large insurance companies while thoroughly examining the facts of the accident. Families who have lost a loved one deserve a strong legal advocate to protect their rights and secure the compensation they are entitled to.”
