Victorville Man Killed in Hit-and-Run on I-15
VICTORVILLE, CA, (September 16, 2025) - Authorities are searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 39-year-old Isaac Ismael Cortez. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that Cortez, a pedestrian from Whittier, was hit by a vehicle on northbound Interstate 15 near Nisqualli Road at about 1:45 a.m. on September 16.
Isaac Ismael Cortez died after being hit by a vehicle on northbound Interstate 15 near Nisqualli Road in San Bernardino County.
Cortez was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The CHP stated that the suspect vehicle likely sustained damage to its front right area, and a front bumper guard may have minimized visible damage. The investigation is ongoing.
FATAL PEDESTRIAN HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
Authorities are investigating the crash, the latest sad example of the dangers in people walking from one place to another. According to findings by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car-loving California surpassed all states with 457 fatal hit-and-run incidents in 2023, far more than the next four states in the rankings - Texas (338), Florida (246), and Arizona and Tennessee with 102 each.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal and a national analyst for The Legal Advocate. “An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision.”
According to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has grown substantially faster than all other traffic deaths.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family of Isaac Ismael Cortez may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for damages covering loss of love and companionship, funeral costs, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, of counsel at Bond Legal. “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family through this difficult time while protecting their rights.”
Bond added, “Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
