Driver Iris Salmeron Arrested Following Tragic Sunday Collision on 605 Freeway
NORWALK, CA, (July 20, 2025) - Four people were tragically killed early Sunday morning when a suspected drunk driver crashed into a disabled vehicle on the 605 Freeway in Norwalk, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Iris Salmeron was reportedly driving under the influence when she slammed into a disabled vehicle on the 605 Freeway in Norwalk early Sunday morning, tragically killing four people, according to authorities.
The fatal collision occurred around 1 a.m. near Rosecrans Avenue. Investigators said the victims were in a Nissan sedan that had become disabled in the No. 2 lane after a previous crash involving a CHP vehicle. A Kia sedan, traveling at high speed, then struck the Nissan, causing it to catch fire. All four occupants of the Nissan were trapped inside and died at the scene.
Authorities identified the Kia driver as Iris Salmeron. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or more, among other charges.
The victims have not yet been publicly identified. The crash remains under active investigation.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Drunk driving puts not only the intoxicated driver at risk, but also endangers passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), someone in the U.S. is killed or injured in a drunk driving crash every 79 seconds—a tragic and preventable toll on public safety.
In cases like this, an independent investigation is critical to determine all contributing factors, including toxicology reports that confirm the driver's blood-alcohol content at the time of the crash.
“An attorney serves as both a legal advocate and a compassionate guide,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “In DUI crashes, it’s vital to ensure that the responsible party is held fully accountable, and that victims or their families receive the justice and compensation they deserve.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the families of the victims tragically killed in the crash may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims can help cover funeral and medical expenses, loss of love and companionship, emotional distress, and other damages resulting from such a devastating loss.
“A wrongful death occurs when a person’s life is taken due to the negligence or misconduct of another,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“When fatalities result from reckless behavior—such as impaired, distracted, or aggressive driving—families are often entitled to pursue civil action against the at-fault driver to seek justice and accountability.”
