Three people hurt in crash at Magnolia and Ellis were taken to hospital for treatment, authorities say

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA, (December 02, 2024) - A 25-year-old woman was fatally injured after her vehicle was struck by a driver fleeing from police during a high-speed chase in Fountain Valley on Tuesday, according to authorities.

police lights car crashHong Ngoc Nguyen, 25, lost his life as a result of a crash involving an arson suspect fleeing from law enforcement officials. The incident happened at Magnolia and Ellis in Fountain Valley, police said.

The woman—identified as Hong Ngoc Nguyen—was traveling in a BMW SUV that was hit at Magnolia and Ellis.

It all began as an arson investigation, police said, adding the suspect torched his future brother-in-law’s house in Fountain Valley. Hours after the incident was reported, officers found the suspect driving a Dodge Ram truck, and as they attempted to stop him, he fled the scene. The Dodge was reportedly going 90 miles per hour when it ran a red light and slammed into the BMW in which Nguyen was riding, resulting in a deadly crash. Three people in the BMW were transported to the hospital for treatment, officials said.

The Dodge’s driver is expected to be booked on a number of felony charges. Currently, he is being treated at a hospital.

This is an ongoing investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.

“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time, protecting their rights, while ensuring that a driver who does not obey traffic laws is held accountable for their actions,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Hong Ngoc Nguyen may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Bond, a national analyst for Newsline.

“If you have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence, contact a wrongful death attorney and get the guidance needed to obtain the justice you deserve.”
