The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal head-on crash that left two people dead and two others seriously injured Tuesday morning on Sierra Highway in Acton.
At about 6:20 a.m., a black Infiniti Q50 crossed into the opposite lane south of Crown Valley Road and collided head-on with a blue Honda Odyssey. The Infiniti’s driver, a 22-year-old man from Canyon Country, lost control for unknown reasons, causing the deadly crash.
Two people were killed and several others were injured in a head-on crash Tuesday morning on Sierra Highway in Acton.
Both the driver and his front passenger died at the scene. S. Hernandez-Trinidad, 57, of Santa Clarita, who was driving the Honda, suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital. Another 22-year-old Canyon Country man in the rear of the Infiniti was also seriously injured.
Investigators confirmed the Infiniti’s driver and front passenger were not wearing seat belts. Toxicology results are pending as the case remains under review.
CRASH INVESTIGATION
Each year, motor vehicle crashes in this country kill roughly 36,000 people and injure 1.9 million more. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, an experienced attorney and Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
An injured victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim as the investigation moves forward.
Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, explained, “Victims hurt in collisions often pursue personal injury claims to help cover expenses such as medical bills, ongoing treatment, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”
“Insurance companies are frequently unwilling to fully cover the rising costs victims face,” Bond added. “An experienced attorney can step in to protect victims’ rights and work to ensure they receive the fair compensation they deserve.”
