Fatal pedestrian crash occurred at Beverly Boulevard and Kingsley Drive, officials say
LOS ANGELES, CA, (June 22, 2025) - A 66-year-old pedestrian, identified as Hangyoung Pyeon, was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning in Los Angeles, according to city officials.
Hangyoung Pyeon, 66, was fatally struck by a vehicle early Sunday in Los Angeles, officials confirmed.
The fatal incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. at the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Kingsley Drive. Authorities said an unknown vehicle hit Pyeon, who suffered blunt trauma and died at the scene.
The driver fled the scene, and no further details about the vehicle or the victim’s city of residence have been released.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Experts point to the growing size of vehicles like SUVs, increased rates of distracted and impaired driving, and flawed road designs as key factors fueling the alarming rise in pedestrian deaths.
California now ranks as the third deadliest state for pedestrians, according to recent data. The California Office of Traffic Safety (COTS) reported that 893 pedestrians were killed on state roads in 2018—a 26% increase from 2014.
“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.
Bond emphasized the importance of independent investigations in fatal pedestrian accidents. “A seasoned attorney can ensure critical evidence is preserved and help the victim’s family protect their rights during a very difficult time,” she said.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. The family of Hangyoung Pyeon may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.
“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Bond explained.
She also noted that insurance companies often try to settle claims quickly and for far less than victims deserve. “An experienced attorney will vigorously advocate for their client, ensuring they are treated with respect and compensated fairly,” Bond added.
