George Berg, 64, of Highland, was killed Thursday morning in Craighead County when his Subaru was struck by another vehicle.
According to State Police, the collision happened around 9:08 a.m. on State Highway 18/County Road 575. A 34-year-old man driving a Jeep crossed the center line and collided with Berg’s 2022 Subaru.
George Berg tragically died Thursday in Craighead County after his vehicle was struck by another driver.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), vehicles cross the centerline for three main reasons: driver error, vehicle issues, and poor road maintenance and/or inadequate infrastructure.
Driver error can include distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving and overcorrection. The majority of center line accidents are head-on collisions, which are disproportionately fatal when compared to other types of crashes. These crashes are disproportionately severe due to the combined force of the impacting vehicles.
Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, has said in such cases that it's imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned lawyer in a timely manner to protect the victim’s rights.
“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the victim must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Newsline. “An attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide an accident victim during this difficult time, while protecting the person's legal rights and best interests.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family of George Berg may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims allow surviving relatives to seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain, and suffering following a tragic accident.
“We understand the profound challenges families face after losing a loved one, and protecting their rights is critical,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can closely follow the investigation and ensure the family’s best interests are fully represented. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to pursue compensation for the emotional and financial hardships caused by a catastrophic accident.”
