Firefighters responded to a working fire at 305 Amherst St., where smoke was visible from the third floor of a three-story woodframe structure measuring 40 by 60 feet. The incident was reported at 7:01 a.m. on Jan. 5. Emergency crews arrived to find heavy smoke on the upper level and launched an aggressive firefighting effort to contain the flames.
