What Happened in the Crash?

The crash occurred when a Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended a northbound Toyota Corolla operating as a rideshare near Iliff Avenue just after 2 a.m. on March 21. The collision forced the Toyota onto the shoulder of the road.

  • Date and Time: March 21, early Saturday morning, around 2 a.m.
  • Location: Iliff Avenue, Aurora, Colorado
  • Vehicles Involved: Chevrolet Silverado, suspect vehicle, and Toyota Corolla, rideshare
  • Outcome: One fatality, two serious injuries, and the suspects fled on foot

Eduardo Morales, 37, a passenger in the backseat of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. The rideshare driver and another passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The occupants of the Silverado escaped on foot and have not been apprehended.

Aurora Police Department continues its investigation, with no arrests reported at this time.

Why Do Hit-and-Run Crashes Occur?

Hit-and-run incidents often stem from factors like impaired driving, fear of legal consequences, or vehicle malfunctions. In this case, the suspects' flight complicates the pursuit of justice.

For a broader context, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that hit-and-run crashes contribute significantly to road fatalities. According to 2023 data, such incidents accounted for over 10% of all traffic deaths in urban areas.
